Food Quality Concepts

Food Quality Concepts brings together ways of evaluating foods beyond a single nutrient number or marketing claim. Processing level, energy density, protein and fiber concentration, fat quality, free sugars, fortification, ingredient composition and dietary variety all describe different dimensions of food quality. None works as a complete score by itself. Used together, these concepts help explain why two foods with similar calories can differ in ingredients, satiety, nutrient contribution or processing without reducing the comparison to a simple good-versus-bad label.
