Bifidobacterium
1 article
Common in the human intestinal microbiota, Bifidobacterium is a genus of Gram-positive, anaerobic bacteria used in probiotic supplements and some cultured dairy products. Individual species and strains differ, so a label that identifies Bifidobacterium only at genus level gives less information than a full strain designation. In consumer nutrition, it is best distinguished from Lactobacillus and spore-forming probiotic genera by its classification, strain naming, culture format, and role within multi-strain formulas.
