The Federal Trade Commission is the U.S. consumer-protection agency with a central role in truth-in-advertising enforcement, including health, food, and supplement marketing claims. It evaluates whether advertising is deceptive or unfair and whether objective claims have appropriate substantiation, including express and implied messages. That role is different from FDA's primary food-labeling and supplement oversight. For nutrition products, FTC context becomes especially relevant when marketing extends beyond the package into ads, endorsements, websites, or social media.
