Evidence-Based Independent Nutrition, Shake Reviews & Healthy Living

Editorial Policy

Read Shake Nutrition's standards for sourcing, evidence, independence, reviews, sensitive nutrition topics, AI use, and corrections.

Updated

This policy explains the standards Shake Nutrition applies to editorial work about healthy eating, nutrition science, foods, ingredients, labels, recipes, grocery products, supplements, reviews, comparisons, food safety, testing, and related consumer decisions.

Editorial Principles

Accuracy
Material factual claims should be supported by appropriate sources and enough context to avoid misleading readers.
Evidence before assertion
The strength of the wording should reflect the strength and limits of the evidence.
Independence
Commercial relationships do not purchase independent editorial conclusions.
Attribution
Research, product data, testing claims, quotations, and company statements should be attributed to the source that supports them.
Transparency
Material commercial relationships, conflicts, limitations, and uncertainty should be disclosed when relevant.
Accountability
Verified material factual errors should be corrected.

How the Standards Apply

A recipe, scientific explainer, recall update, review, and supplement comparison do not require identical workflows, but they follow the same underlying standards for accuracy, sourcing, context, independence, and disclosure.

01

Define the reader question

Identify what the article needs to explain, verify, compare, or clarify.

02

Research the subject

Locate sources appropriate to the claims, prioritizing primary and authoritative material where available.

03

Draft from the evidence

Avoid wording that goes beyond what the evidence can support.

04

Review material claims

Check important facts, numbers, product details, research findings, quotations, and sensitive statements.

05

Apply additional scrutiny where needed

Health, supplement, safety, recall, testing, and serious reputational claims may require stronger documentation and context.

06

Publish in the appropriate format

News, guides, reviews, comparisons, rankings, recipes, and analysis should be presented honestly for what they are.

07

Maintain the published record

Correct verified errors and update material information when circumstances change.

Source Standards

Preferred Sources

  • peer-reviewed studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses;
  • government and regulatory sources;
  • academic and research institutions;
  • recognized scientific and professional organizations;
  • Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts panels;
  • official ingredient lists and product documentation;
  • certification and testing records;
  • food-safety and recall notices;
  • direct company statements and relevant expert commentary.

Source Context

Manufacturer information can establish product facts such as ingredients, serving size, formulation, certifications, availability, and a company's stated position. Manufacturer claims about effectiveness, superiority, or health benefits are not automatically independent scientific evidence.

Reputable secondary reporting may be used for background or context, but an accessible primary source is preferred when it is central to a material claim.

Scientific Evidence

Nutrition research varies in design, quality, relevance, and certainty. Where relevant, editors may consider study design, sample size, population, duration, comparison groups, endpoints, effect size, statistical significance, practical relevance, funding, conflicts, limitations, and association versus causation.

Editorial Independence

Advertisers, affiliate partners, manufacturers, retailers, agencies, PR representatives, and other commercial parties do not receive the right to require positive independent coverage, purchase a predetermined recommendation, determine a score or ranking position, suppress accurate criticism, or block a factual correction.

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

Reviews and Rankings

Reviews and rankings may consider nutrition profile, ingredients, formulation, serving size, evidence, testing or certification information, safety, price, availability, convenience, intended use, and alternatives. Criteria vary by category and use case.

Shake Nutrition does not claim hands-on or laboratory testing unless that testing actually occurred. External testing is attributed to the source that performed it. See Rankings and Reviews Methodology.

Health and Sensitive Topics

Nutrition, supplements, food safety, allergens, dietary patterns, contamination, recalls, and other health-related claims may affect health and well-being. These topics receive additional editorial caution, stronger sourcing where appropriate, and clear communication of uncertainty.

Shake Nutrition provides general informational content and does not provide individualized diagnosis, treatment, medication decisions, or other personalized professional advice.

Unnamed Sources

Shake Nutrition prefers named, attributable sources and rarely uses unnamed sources. An unnamed source may be considered when the information is important, the source has a credible basis of knowledge, the responsible editor knows the source's identity, there is a legitimate reason for confidentiality, and corroboration is sought where reasonably possible. See Unnamed Sources Policy.

AI and Editorial Text

AI may be used only for images and other visual materials. It is not used to write, draft, rewrite, summarize, translate, research, fact-check, monitor sources, generate metadata or descriptions, tag or categorize content, create biographies, or produce other editorial text. See AI Use Policy.

Corrections

When reliable evidence establishes a material factual error, Shake Nutrition may issue a correction, clarification, update, or broader revision. Minor spelling, punctuation, formatting, link, or readability edits may be made without a separate correction note when they do not materially change meaning.
